St James’ Church Lode with Longmeadow Newsletter September 2018

 

Church reordering – Finally I am pleased to announce that we have been granted permission to carry out the reordering of the church. We can now start applying for funding to finance the work.

Church fabric – The church clock struggled to keep accurate time during the hot weather. Hopefully it is now back to its usual accurate time keeping under the watchful eye and ear of Peter!

Our normal pattern of services is

1st Sunday 9.30 am Communion

2nd Sunday 10.00 am Benefice communion at one of the 5 churches in rotation

3rd Sunday 9.30 am Village Communion service at Quy

4th Sunday 9.30 am Children’s church at Lode other services available in the Benefice

5th Sunday 9.30 am Family Service at Lode. Quy to join us.

Past Events

Sunday 17th June Lode Fete – Church tea and cake stall we raised £375.

Sunday 15th July Village BBQ  40 people endured one of our very hot days this summer at Station Farm. £413 was raised for church funds. Many thanks to all who made food and helped on the day.

Our Pop Up Cafes have been well received by those who attended. Friends have enjoyed meeting up for a chat over tea and cake.

Future Events and Special services

Saturday 8th September Historic Churches Trust sponsored ride/stride/drive event.

No one from our church will be taking part this year. More information about this event can be found in the church.

Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th September Harvest Festival. The church will be open both days.

All Age Service Sunday 16th September at 11.00 am followed by lunch at 12.30 in the church. Tickets: adult £5 and child £3. Available from Julie Sale or The shop in Lode

Sunday 16th September Village Praise 5.30 pm Lode Chapel. This is a new joint venture for Renew and Anglesey Benefice. Come and enjoy familiar hymns, readings and stories of how faith and life connect, followed by tea, coffee and cakes

Saturday 6th October  Fran Platten’s  Jumble Sale 2.00pm – 4.00pm in the church

There will be an All Souls Day service in the Benefice -  more details to follow.

Sunday 11 November  - Remembrance Services  - each village in the Benefice will hold an act of remembrance at 10.50 am at their war memorial. The main service and parade will be held in Swaffham Bulbeck church at 3.00 pm. You may already be aware that a group of people have been knitting and crocheting poppies during the summer. These will be displayed on each war memorial and on the tower of Swaffham Bulbeck church.

Play and Praise Toddler Group- Fridays during term time 9.30 am – 11.00 am Lode Church

1st session Friday 7th September.

Film Church - for children in Yr 6 and above meets in the Parish Room in Lode church 7.30 pm – 9.00 pm alternate Fridays during term time. Come and watch and discuss a film, play games and enjoy the tuck shop.
