Report on Past Events

Harvest Festival – Many thanks go to Ann Langran and the flower ladies for producing such wonderful displays in the church. The service at 11.00 am was led by Rev’d Sue Giles. 23 people stayed behind after the service for a cold buffet lunch. The fresh produce displayed in the church was donated to the Food Bank in Newmarket.

Jumble Sale – Fran Platten held her October Jumble Sale in the church. It was very well supported with items to sell and buyers. Fran very generously gave the profits of £889 to the church for the community space fund.

All Soul’s Service – Lode hosted the Benefice All Soul’s Service which was followed by tea and cake. This was well received.

Remembrance Services

Over 8000 poppies were knitted and crocheted for the displays on each village war memorial. Thank you to everyone who contributed some poppies and a big thank you to Veronica Stevenson and Angela Roebuck for co-ordinating the whole event and organising tutorials to teach people how to crochet. Photos of the displays have been in the local newspapers. Interviews have been on Radio Cambridgeshire and Thats Cambridge TV

Fabric

We had the 2 elm trees at the front of the churchyard cut down in October. Hopefully some of you are benefiting from the logs. We are in the process of asking for permission to remove the oak tree that is growing between the gravestones at the back of the churchyard.

I apologise for the state of the churchyard this summer. Unfortunately Graham wasn’t able to cut the grass. I am happy to report that he is fit now so we hope to tidy up the churchyard over the winter months. We always welcome volunteers to help at any time!

Church Reordering

We have now been granted the faculty to carry out the work on the church. Coral has kindly taken on the task of wading through the endless forms to apply for funding from the National Lottery and WREN to name just 2 of the grant funding bodies.

Village Praise

The 1st Village Praise service in September was very well attended with extra chairs required. We sang hymns that had a special significance to the person who chose them. We listened to poems and readings. There was plenty of time to catch up with friends over tea and cake at the end of the service. Why not come to the next service on Sunday 2nd December.

It just remains for us to thank you all for your support throughout the year and to wish you a
